I made this hoop for pugwash, in the swap "Embroidery Hoopla round 7 : negative space & silhouette".

Here are Princess Peach in pink, Luigi in green, Mario in red and a Toad in yellow, running in a setting of Mario Bros video game.

They're embroidered with french knots, and the setting with back stitches.

It's my first embroidery with french knot and I'm very happy how it turned out.

I was lost just staring. This is so...delightful.

The idea and use of negative space is awesome and the french knots really class the place up!
Wink

I love it.

I love this! I have a question for you. I was recently working on a french knot font, and I had to outline my letters first to keep the knots in order. Did you outline your silhouettes first or just knot it up?  Smiley

thanks!
Yes I did, with back stitches of same color as french knots.
I made the french knots very close to the back stitched line, so you can't see it.
I used two shades of color for each silhouette. Dark shade all around the silhouette (first layer, and nearest knots), and a lighter shade for more distant knots.
This accentuates the effect of movement, I think...
