I've been working on a piece of jewelry to represent an Ecuadorian folk tale. The folk tale involves a hummingbird whose forest home is threatened by a fire. The response of the bird is to "do what she can", which is to carry a single drop of water in her beak from a river bordering the forest, and fly to the the flames in an attempt to douse them.

I've made several versions of this necklace, but this is the first lariat, and the first beaded version.

It features a spiral woven "river" (blue seed beads spiraling the green core with fire polished crystals) and "forest" (brown seed beads spiraling the green core with fancy jasper stones and glass leaves). Three Swarovski crysal "flames" are suspended from a circlet of fancy jasper in the transition between the "river' and "forest" sections. A silver plated hummingbird dangles from the end of the river with her  tiny swarovski crystal "water droplet"

I love this, and I love the story behind it even more! Truly lovely. The only thing I might suggest is using a transparent thread next time, but it doesn't make much of a difference.

Thanks!

I will definitely find some transparent stringing material for next time. I used Fireline in "crystal", but it is pretty visible when you look closely.

WOW! I knew it would come to you. It has turned out so beautifully. Sometimes when I make something and I'm not sure if I like it that way. I will hold off on finishing it. I'll leave it on my desk for a couple of days till it hits me what I could change to make it better.
