For this Silhouette themed Hoopla swap my partner ( much like myself ) is a Harry Potter fan. She had this great image from 9gag.com  ( I think the original artist is "redbubble" or something like that) on her pinterest page and I instantly knew that this is what I wanted to do.

I struggled at first with how to get the right dementor robe texture, but I grabbed a bunch of spare fabric and ripped it up in to tiny rags with frayed edges. I then twisted and bunched them up and sewed them on filling in the space.  I was really pleased with how this technique worked as it was kind of a " what'll happen if I do this!!!?" kind of idea.

I really like how it turned out, it kind of has a really rough feel to it, but also presents a lot of possibilities. I approach my hoopla's less like a craft and more like an art piece, so from that angle and for me, this is an awesome artistic texture technique... Maybe not textbook "the right way to stitch" but hey it works for me.

and may I just simply say: EXPECTO PATRONUM!!!

Still Curious?

This is awesome! I would never have thought to do that! It looks like you filled in smaller bits of the dementor with satin stitch or some other filler.  Or is it all fabric?

Some of it is stitching but the black fabric I used was ribbed, so it kind of looks like stitching as well.
