I am going to a wedding in Jamica this June and I have no idea what to wear. I style is retro/rockabilly, and I am not sure what kind of dress I should make. I hear that linen is best in the climate there but I am not sure. I need some pattern ideas and some fabric suggestions. PLEASE HELP

If you're flying there, avoid linen, it will wrinkle so badly it will blow your mind. Make sure the fabric is natural, or it won't breathe. Make the boddice a little looser than traditional rockabilly so you get good air circulation. Other than that, make a normal dress! Cheesy Enjoy the wedding.

you could do a thick strapped sweetheart neckline fitted bodice and a round or circle skirt around the bottom. A small crinoline will make it look better, but will also add heat I would assume a sturdy cotton would work well.hope I could help.

If you still like the idea of linen, roll up the dress side-to-side (that is, lengthwise) and then pack it like a snake around the edge of your suitcase. That will make the wrinkles more or less vertical, giving an impression of ease and relaxation, as opposed to "I haven't steamed the wrinkles out yet." You should also let it hang for as long as you can when you get there, so that the fabric can relax according to gravity.

Jamaica?  In June?

You must be soooooo excited!

There is a pattern for a "Bomb Shell Dress" that fits both rockabilly and retro.  I can't seam (pun intended) to find it other than the pay for the course version on Craftsy, but I thought it used to be a free pattern...

I am a huge linen fan.  Love it... because I live where it is hot...and because ironing does not bother me!

Have a great time!

Never free, alas, but it's actually a BurdaStyle Magazine pattern from last summer: Bustier Dress with Draped Detail. Gertie talks about filming the tutorial video here.
