What do you do with a non working cuckoo clock....alter it of course!  I made this a long while ago for ptarmic wumpus in the STS Holiday Appreciation Swap (really a loong while ago 2009...I kind of lose track of time Cheesy

I started with an empty body and collaged music paper on the front and sides.  This I overpainted with some glazes made from Golden liquid acrylic paints with a final antiqueing coat on top of everything.  There were about 3-4 coats of colour on there before I sealed it.  I found a dollar store clock that fit perfectly in the hole and has access through the back for a battery change.  You could still see the edges so I put some felt around the clock to trim it out.  At first I was going to do some kind of paper pinecone "weight", but in honour of ptarmic's felty skills I made a couple of felted pinecone shapes out of red fiber.

The roof tiles were cut out of collage paper that I made (basically scraps of paper glued between a sandwich of sewing pattern tissue with thinned down white glue, then painted)

The final touch was a little mushroom bird and some tiny words Smiley

I love how this clock turned out and have been unsuccessfully looking for another abandoned cuckoo clock every since.  Man I used to see these everywhere before I became obsessed with altering random things...anyway let me know what you think!

This is beautiful! The green reminds me of Germany and the sheet music covering is subtle, but just the right touch. Smiley Will have to be on the look out for old cuckoo clocks for you.

Thanks guys!  I can't believe I haven't been able to find another clock since I made this one.  Obviously I am haunting the wrong garage sales and thrift stores Cheesy

I love this idea! I have almost bought a few in antique shops with the dream of fixing them up...but yeah, right! Altering them sounds like a great alternative. I have a dinky one hanging in my craft room now, so I'll add it to the list. Thanks for your inspiration!!
