Hi all,

I'm trying to work out how to make something similar to the picture I've drawn (linked below). My laptop is 26x38cm and would be in a padded flappy bit at the back of the bag (if that makes sense, it is the dotted line thing in the picture), it weighs about 1.5kgs (if that). I'd need to get a small A4 binder into the bag, a small pencil case, water bottle and my wallet. The bit at the front would be pleated or gathered, I've never had much luck guessing that stuff myself.

Basic pattern shapes would be a great help, I simply cannot visualise it, I'm hoping some other lovely crafty person can. I'm guessing a seperate rectangle above the gathered bit at the front. I think I'd like the bottom to be rounded/curved, but am not sure what the base piece would be like/ if there is a base piece. I wouldn't bother gathering or pleating the back of the bag.

Any help is greatly appreciated!  Smiley

If you can't figure the gathers, you can always cut out the basic shape around the laptop to make sure it's big enough, then cut out a separate rectangle, make a few gather folds in it and sew it to the front. You can even make a pocket out of it with a snap or loop-and-button.
