I looked but I'm sure I must have missed a similar thread, please bear with me.

Is there any kind of fool proof device for cutting glass that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I don't mean your simple, hand held glass cutters, I mean like one of those T things (or something like that) that make it VERY hard to mess up, which is why I'm looking for this kind of tool rather than the ordinary hand held types.

There are many tools for cutting glass. But could you give more information on what you want to do, then I can make a better recommendation?

Will you be doing stained glass, mosaics, cutting bottles? More info please.

Well, right now all I need to cut is planes of plain glass in squares, rectangles and trapezoids. I am just no good at those pencil like or even pistol type cutters.

So I need some kind of device like one of these: http://www.glassinchina.com/product/productDisplay_324177.html
http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=615&tbm=isch&tbnid=dqG4cDjdZveR-M:&imgrefurl=http://www.glassmart.com/cuttersmate.asp&docid=VBysOPWQjuKCVM&imgurl=http://www.glassmart.com/images/cmt1a.jpg&w=260&h=215&ei=XI48T7b4Jcrq0gG4wsmxBw&zoom=1

Or something. But I don't have a lot of money.

Any system that does those things will be priced over the 25 - 30 a hand cutter costs. The one best suited for what you want to do, and I have one myself, Beetle Bits System.

You can do some searching for price, but make sure you're comparing apples to apples. There are several types of BB Systems. There is even a BB Mini.

I don't own a Beetle Bits System, but have heard good things about it. The more glass you cut, the better you'll get! I love the sound of the cutter biting the glass and the sound it makes when it breaks!

I'm a bit confused, it only lets you cut small shapes? How big does it let you cut?

It's for cutting various shapes accurately (including straight!).

I'm actually a big fan of the Cutters Mate Mini:

http://www.delphiglass.com/new-products/seen-in-stained-glass-news/cutters-mate-mini?source=froogle

As it is a) 100 bucks cheaper than the full-sized version and b) will do freehand beautifully as we'll as circles and straight lines.
