I want to get into some basic PMC and fused glass pendant work to expand my jewelry business. I've been pricing out countertop kilns (it HAS to be countertop/120V as I live in an apartment) and I found one on Craigslist. "Paragon Sc2 w/ Sentry x-press 3.0 temp controller" that was fired four times, like new condition. She's willing to take $450 for it. Pricing them new looks like $600-$700 depending on where you buy it.

Seems like a good deal but I wanted to get some thoughts. I've never in my life used a kiln before so I know there's a lot I don't know but from everything I've seen, this looks like a good model. And everything I read says you need the digital control that this has to make your life easier.

Thoughts greatly appreciated!!!

Sounds like a very nice price. Make sure you have the wiring in your space for it. Will is do all the things you want? Also why not ask for another 50.00 off, just in case. The reviews of this model are good, so I think the model is a solid choice.

Did find it online for only 533.00, which is a great price for new, and you can pick the exterior color. Smiley

She originally was listing it with a bunch of glass and stuff for $600 and I emailed and asked if she'd do $450. She said yes but kiln only for that price. I'm debating if I should say without the accessories, $400. My fiance is worried about buying used versus new since a cash deal you can't return it or credit card dispute, etc. Seems like a lot of people buy kilns used though, so is that a concern?

The one I was originally looking at was the Firefly which would be about $525 new (cheapest I could find) but...getting one around $100 or so less is really a factor.

Can she prove when it was purchased? Have you actually seen it, so you can know the condition?

Based on those two I would make the call. It is a good brand and model, and the 450. seems okay. However, can't hurt to ask her in person with cash in hand, if she would take 400.00. Money in someone's face can make them want it more. Wink
