This lariat style story necklace is an interpretation of an Ecuadorian folk tale. The story involves a hummingbird whose forest home is threatened by a fire. The response of the bird, unlike her animal neighbors who are paralyzed with fear,  is to "do what she can", which is to carry a single drop of water in her beak from a river bordering the forest, and fly to the the flames in an attempt to douse them.

The necklace version of this folktale features a spiral woven "river" (blue seed beads spiraling the green core with fire polished crystals) and "forest" (brown seed beads spiraling the green core with fancy jasper stones and glass leaves). A trio of Swarovski crystal "flames" are suspended from a circlet of fancy jasper and crystal in the transition between the "river' and "forest" sections. A silver plated hummingbird hovers at the end of the river with her  tiny Swarovski crystal "water droplet".

I love the story and the lariat. Beautiful colors and the spirals are awesome.

What a clever idea, to create a necklace that tells a story!  That's a real piece of art.

It's absolutely lovely... Except you are in the wrong thread! The challenge is over. You need to post your project in the Jewelry Board. Sorry you didn't get it posted in time... I think you would have been a contender!
