I think a new thread is a good idea! The old one is quite old. ^_^  I'm going to put a post there pointing to this one and then lock that old thread.

It's good timing (for me) that you've brought this up - I've been plotting a new scrap blanket idea and am just about to try it out!

Phew!! Didn't want to get into any bother by doing it with being a newbie.

Well I have my magic ball in place with help from the kids choosing colours for me and so far have done 6 rounds.

Oooh, I hadn't seen that one!  We should use the existing one, I think.  Once I'm sure you've seen this, I'll delete this thread. ^_^

The scrap along is recent but the granny square afghan one is older. Check out all the pics in that one though, it's super inspirational!

I've had the thread brought back!  The reason: the currently active scrap-along specifically excludes blankets, and the other one is specific to rectangular granny blankets.

My question to you all is: should we keep this one for scrap blankets of any pattern?

I started this blanket more than a year ago and I plan on using up all of my scraps finishing it. It is rather large  Grin. I wanted it to be big enough to be like a bedspread for a queen sized bed. So, in the picture, the part that is going up and down is really the width of it and the width in the picture is only how far up I have made it so far. (I always make things waaayyy too big. I should post a picture of my 18 yo son trying on a dress I tried to make for my 4yo, lol). Anyways, I layed it on a futon and I put my cat on it to show scale. This is a great project that I always return to when I need to take a break from whatever I am currently working on. It is just double crochets so I don't have to think, and can watch a movie while working on it.

Here is a picture of my scrap collection to use in the blanket. I have 4 Ikea containers full of balled up yarn at my disposal.

I'm up for this, I have alot of reds and pinks I'd like to use to make a scrap blanket from, keeping a sort of theme while using all my scraps, we'll see how far I get!

I'm starting with the greens on this one:

Here's a close-up:

I was working on this yesterday while my fiance played the Mass Effect 3 demo (he just can't wait until the actual game comes out).  This blanket might end up being the thing I make while being an ME3 widow Tongue

It's already looking very interesting! I fear I myself don't have enough scraps or patience for crocheting blankets, but there's some cool stuff here Smiley

It is just dc stitches with some ch10 spaces thrown in. At the end you kind of chain up those ch10 spaces to make a braided look. It's called Jacob's Ladder.

Usually Jacob's Ladders go in a straight line, but that's just not how I roll. Grin

I was going to wait until the very end to do the laddering, but I just couldn't wait to see what it will look like.

I'm going to undo it now, as it'll just fall out as I'm working on it anyway - it'll be the last row that holds it all together.

I think when I do this up for real I'm going to cross the ones at the bottom, too, to bring the lines closer together.  It'll take some experimenting, I think!

I'm making some good progress.  I'm just past the half-way mark (doing 6 pattern repeats, 3.5 shown)

I just love looking at the color changes in your afghan, fantasticmio!! The added punch of the clever braiding and triangles just drives me to pull out the hook, needles, etc. and make something!!!  Cool  *Kewel!*

I've been working on using up yarns (A LoT) lately...the baby grannies are a WIP and there is a lot more yarn to use up, so I've started a hexi pattern from here:  http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/hexagon-howto.html

I'm using up a bunch of yarns in a new way and a new joining method, ta-boot!  I'd love to hang out and scrap-along w/you creative peeps!!
