These are very cute but I have a question?  When do you sew the two pieces completely together?  I mean when you are decreasing around, are you still doing this as one whole piece that is not sewn together?  Does that make sense?

Okay, so first you make the two "humps" of the heart.  Then you sew those together side by side.  After that you continue working in rounds working around the rim only.  So you won't work any more stitches at the site where the two pieces were sewn together. Am I making it more confusing? Sorry if I am.  By the time you start decreasing the top part of the heart should already be sewn together and you should be working the heart as one piece..  I hope that helps!
