I would also prefer to swap skeins, rather than puffs.

I think mini-skeins are a great idea. It would be super low-stress, and we could do it sweat-shop-style even where you take one full skein and break it down into 5 mini skeins and send them out to 5 different partners. In theory you would receive 5 in return....like a chain letter  Grin

I've never made socks, so I don't have any sock yarn, but I like it and I've had the beekeeper bookmarked for a while.  Maybe in March when things slow down a little for me, I could swap some mini skiens to get started with.  I dunno how long it will take me to make a puff so at this moment I can't say I'd swap puffs... though that would be cool too!

I'd be interested!  I've been wanting to make one of these but I don't have enough variety in yarns.  So yea, swapping mini-skeins would be great!

Maybe if it was a mini-skein swap it could be linked with a craft-along so that you could still see people's progress in making their quilts and that way if people wanted to use the crocheted or knitted pattern they could get involved??

there was talk of a knit-along for this quilt.
I wrapped up 10 or so mini-skeins to dye last night. I found some ecru-colored, sock-weight yarn and I am going to dye each one differently to give myself a bit of variety. So far my stash has yielded QUITE a few yarns, all in the blue/green/purple family. Looks nice!

are you considering just the knitted version or will it include the crocheted version as well? I found a free crocheted version on ravelry called "Apiary Puff" that was inspired by the Beekeepers Quilt. They  each use 24 yards of fingering/sock weight yarn and measure approximately 3 inches at the widest point.

I've been wanting to try them, but not sure if I will stuff them.

I would like to swap for either crocheted or knitted puffs  Smiley

Hey, LxM,
any chance if you set it up as a mini-skein swap, that you could ask a question to see if swappers would
want to trade out their puffs for extra mini-skeins?
(not sure if that would be an organizer's nightmare?)
