I made this in the Pinterest swap from a pinned Craftster project. The original had a large embroidered bee, but I decided to embroider on top of the printed bees on some awesome Hive fabric from the Flora and Fauna line. I pulled out lots of yellow fabrics from my stash and made 4 1/2 inch hexagons. This was my first time sewing together hexagons so I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Does anyone have any advice on how not to lose the shape on the edge ones?

After I embroidered and cut out all the hexies I stitched them together with a whip stitch. Then I spray basted the top to some batting and added some hanging loops. I sandwiched the top and back right sides together and sewed and flipped. Then just some top stitching/quilting around each hex!

This is really cute.  I'd love to see it in a kitchen or sunroom, I think.

I've no idea how to keep from losing the shape, but I think that I've figured out my next sewing project!  Super tiny hexagons into a mug rug for my stepmom.  She's gonna be thrilled. ^_^!

That sounds really fun, I think I need to do a hexagon mug rug too! There will lots of hexies in my future! For this project I used a big hexagon template from Joann that has several different size (5 inch and down) on it. But for small ones I love my hexagon templates from this shop:

Cute!  I especially like that you embroidered over the printed bees.  Such a little detail, but it adds so much.

Love it Mare Mare!  It is the first hex quilt that has even slightly tempted me to try making them.... not that I will.
