I was in a pinup swap a while ago and was officially introduced to the work of Olivia. I fell in love with this piece and it may be the only image that has ever inspired me to make 2 things from it. The other thing is still a WIP, but this one just took one day. I've had the stuff long enough, though, so it may as well have taken a year and a half. This was part of my Crafting ADD that overtook me when my husband was out of town last weekend.

the mirror with frame is about 18"x24" so the image is about 20 inches long. Used the contact paper method for etching. I was really worried about her face and hands but I think they came out OK.

My question: what to do with it? Can't hang it with a growing 5yo boy in the house. Can't mail it. Well, I guess I could but I would be super worried about my packaging job and I would need a really bug box and who would I mail it to? Can't sell it, legally. Don't know anyone I would be able to gift it to... What to do? I really don't want her to just spend her existence crammed between my dresser and the wall, ya know?

This is awesome! I love it, you did a great job getting the image transferred - I almost like your etching more than the original, because it looks more subtle and simplified.

Not to say the original isn't superb, because it totally is!  Pin-up style mermaid = two of my favorite things in one.

As far as what to do with it, I sort of agree with ScrappySue.  Hang it up, maybe in some place that the bean doesn't go often/at all, like your bedroom or (assuming you have your own bathroom) in your bathroom.  I will say that, if it were smaller, I'd offer to do a personal swap to, um, take her off your hands.  But I don't have the resources right now to make something of similar size/awesome.  Maybe if you still have her in a little while . . . .

Thanks you guys!
Sue: Another issue with hanging it is I just dont know where to hang it. Not much wall space.

I just realized I didn't put a mature image tag on it but I don't know how! The button doesn't work for me. Sad I am so confused. Curse you HTML!

There's no reason you couldn't sell this! This image doesn't fall under any kind of obscenity category that I know of, it's not even erotica. Women have breasts.

I agree with Sue: don't make a big deal out of it.

Why not hang it on the ceiling? Velcro will do the trick nicely.

I'd just hang it somewhere, anywhere! You love the image, so why not? She's no more offensive than a naked Barbie  Smiley
If you don't want to hang it, tuck it in a suitcase and come for a trip to NZ  Wink I'll hang it up  Cheesy

I would either find someone to do a personal swap with or put it in "shop the swap".

If you are really worried, why not make her a little bikini top and glue it to the mirror until the little one is older? Although, I don't think tasteful breasts are anything to be worried about.  We had a huge picture of a naked lady in our den for years and years and years, and I turned out fine.

Thanks for all of your encouragement! C-ster is the best! C-sters are the best!

I really want to be more open and un-prudish with my kids but Russ gets giddy when he sees my cleavage so... And we really don't have the wall space for it! Even if there was a "kid free" zone. In a house this small, though, that's really hard. And it's not really my style anyway. I love it, but it isn't something I would actually buy somewhere or hang in my house. The bikini idea is really cute, though. Cheesy

CrazyGlassEye, I'm pretty sure it's a copyrighted image so yeah, legally I couldn't sell it unless I got specific permission from the copyright holder, which might be cool to have a convo with Olivia herself (since I assume she is the holder) and show her the work, but I really wouldn't feel right selling it.

Trip to NZ does sound really fun, though...
