Slumped Bottle Cheese Trays

These have got to be the easiest thing in the world to make!
Put wine bottles, or in  this case Sky Blue Vodka bottles, on their side in the kiln. Fire to 1500 degrees and viola! Slumped bottles that are great for cheese boards.
Throw on some rubber bumper feet and some raffia around the neck.  Perfect for gift giving.

Did not realize how easy these were to make. Can you use any glass bottles? Also can you fuse two or more together? I like the blue ones especially.

Oh - I've seen these - so cool!  In fact, a cool addition I saw was a cheese knife with a wine cork over the handle - tied to the top.  Pretty cute!

Yes, you can use any bottle.   Putting two together is possible, though it is a risk - not knowing what the COE of each of the bottles is means you risk stress in the glass, but they are only bottles and free from your friends who drink lots of booze and bars!  So, i say take the risk and give it a go!

The way the bottles stay there shape, and I love the hemp that you use on the top!

Just curious, Joby - I seem to have a problem with devitrification when I try slumping or flattening wine bottles.  Wondering how you avoid that?  Also, I've been playing with a # of different firing schedules.  Are you achieving these fabulous results with a standard full fuse or do you incorporate multiple bubble squeeze segments?  Thanks!

I've been looking for one of these for a friend who drinks Skyy vodka; the only ones I found locally were $25, a bit more than I planned to spend.
