I haven't been to a thrift shop in years.  I may have to start checking them out again.  You never know what you can find there.

The trick is to talk to the thrift shop manager and ask them if you can buy sweaters that aren't sellable, those with holes or stains etc. Some places like the St Vincent DePaul ship that stuff overseas but smaller shops throw it out and would be happy to hand it over. Especially if you give them a picture of what you made, people are always so amazed to see that.

That's a good idea about asking for unsellable sweaters.

I've had mixed luck finding them.  Some shops seem to never have them.  I did find a smaller shop in my town that seems to often have felt sweaters.  I stocked up last time I was there...I think I bought 6-8 sweaters in one go.  It might help that I live in AK so there are probably a greater number of wool sweaters being worn and donated than you would find in a southern state.

Another fun way to get wool to felt for projects is wool suits.  The woven fabric doesn't felt up as fuzzy as the knit sweaters but I've had fun playing with some of them.  Long wool skirts from women's suits provide you with a lot of material.

I mailed out my package to CrisSews this afternoon.  I'm a little nervous.  She sent me such a nice cat.  I hope she likes what I made her.
