Huge Bed Warmer!

So I found this amazing tutorial on Make it Do:

I went a little hippie on the sizing and ended up with a bed warmer that is 36"x12"!  





The fabric is fleece on the top with ribbon accent, and cozy chenille on the bottom.



The back is an envelope closure, and the pillow on the inside can be removed for heating.  I just used a basic cotton for the inner pillow and filled it with feed corn:

The best part is the corn was free!  I went to our local (and super friendly) farm/feed company, and they gave me some of the corn they tested from farmer's loads.  I ended up with over 10 lbs of corn, so I'll definitely have enough to make a few smaller items (like headache pillows and such).

Anyway, it was a really fun project, thanks to dnd4us for the awesome idea!

i recently made two much like this, one is my mans bed warmer one is my back/shoulder/hip/knee anything else that aches warmer- I used rice, but was thinking corn for next go arounds, I believe it will be cheaper in long run.

According to Make it Do, corn smells a little better (or at least cornier) and stays warm longer..  I've had rice bags in the past, but it's annoying how fast they cool and they always smell funky  

Yeah, the liner barely barely fit into my microwave..  it's a little tooooo big, but it warms the whole bed!

I never thought to use corn, but that is because I always assumed it'd pop in the micro.  Do you have any problems with that?

So far, not really..  This is feed corn, I think popping corn is a totally different variety.  I made a much smaller eye pillow a week or so ago, and it did make a popping sound or two when I put it in the microwave, but I suspect I lost a pin in there somewhere

Free feed corn? Jealous! I don't even know of a place to buy feed corn that is less than a 45 minute drive from me.

Totally thinking I need to make the boyfriend something like this so I won't have to listen to him whine anymore about how cold he is at night when I'm not there. (At first it was sweet...now it's just whining.)

I love these!!! I had one when I was pregnant and my poor husband was always being sent to go heat it up I never thought to make big one- great project!
