My Grandma embroidered this set of blocks probably around the time I was born! They have been safely tucked away in a drawer for all these years, until she brought them out and issued me a challenge. Make something for my very own baby girl (that we call Hamster) that is due in May. I set to work without a pattern and came up with this!

I used bright fun fabrics as that is what I'm drawn to and it looked so great with the vintage embroidery. My wonderful long arm quilter did this custom for me with lots of swirls.

The quilter echoed each embroidered design and then swirled to fill in the rest of the block and continued it in the sashing.

It is backed with a super soft yellow flannel, perfect for snuggling.

I just know this will get to loved to pieces and I wouldn't have it any other way! Grin

This quilt is so special.  I love that it ties 2 generations of your family together, to be handed down to your own wee Hamster.
The colors are so fun, and your blocks set off the embroidered panels perfectly.
Hugs to you and Hamster!

I love that you incorporated the lovely embroideries your grandma did into your quilt!  What a story you will have for your own dear child!

The colors are nice together and bring a modern touch to your quilt...as always, you do such nice work!

What an amazing quilt. I'm sure it will be very treasured. Your Hamster is one lucky girl to have such a crafty mommy.

Hooray for grandmas!  I love the pinwheel look with those blocks and the colors are so cheerful.  I'm so glad that these wonderful embroideries are able to come out of hiding and be admired and loved by your little one.
