I am purplexed. I bought a foot for my sewing machine to do freemotion embroidery, but it the foot part doesn't meet flush with the metal base plate. The back edge of the "hoop" meets the plate and the edge nearest me is at a 45 degree angle to the plate. Is that normal?

I have a singer 500a rocketeer. It is a slant needle and I bought a slant needle foot.

Any ideas? Is that how they are supposed to fit?

Please and thank you guys.

Some of the free-motion embroidery feet do have an upward slant to the front of the hoop.  It's suppose to help it move more freely/ not get caught in bulky material or already existing stitching.

45 degrees seems a bit more of a slant than I've seen but as long as the back of the hoop is making good contact I wouldn't think it'd be a problem.
