Hey guys. This year my husband and I are starting a new/old tradition. (New to us but very old.) It is an Advent Candle Spiral. It is used to celebrate the advent and winter Solstice. I made mine out of salt dough while I was making ornaments.

I have a tutorial on how I made mine, as well as more information about the tradition if you would like to celebrate this tradition yourself here: http://hollylynnclark.blogspot.com/2012/11/advent-candle-spiral.html
Thanks for checking it out, I'm quite excited to celebrate.
Happy Handmade Holidays everyone!

That is a very interesting tradition! Thanks for sharing, I had never heard of it before, it's an awesome idea. I love the blues that you painted your spiral!

Thanks, I'm really proud how the paint job came out. Doesn't happen very often when whats in your head comes out through your hands hehe. I know I really fell in love with the tradition, I just stumbled across it. you should look into it more, it is really cool. I believe one of the things I read that it was an old germanic tradition.  I really liked the tie in with Christmas and the Solstice... Happy Holidays!

What a nice tradition. I love hearing about all the different ways that us crafters welcome in the season Smiley.

You did a great job with this. The paint job is so lovely and it does feel very winter'y.
