Just not enough hours in the day to do craft

Wasn't sure where to post these but considering I use them as tree ornaments, I am posting them here.

I made a steampunk doll that needed a hat.  See doll here
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=402728.0

And I loved the hat so much that I decided that little hats all over my tree would look great. So I made some more hats.

Total hat height from brim to top of crown is 8 cm

Here are some close ups of individual hats.

And My favourites

Thanks so much for your kind comments.

I made the pattern for these hats myself but I did spend quite a bit of time searching the net looking for tutorials on hat making before I made the first hat.   This site was probably the most helpful.
http://www.lynnmcmasters.com/Flare1.html
My hats are much smaller and a slightly different shape than those produced in the tutorial I found. I used the same basic principles but  I developed some variations so that I could make my hat bases from cardboard. I made these hats by cutting small pieces of cardboard and then sticking them together with masking tape.  I used cereal boxes and there is no millinery wire in any of my little hats.

Thank you for asking for a tutorial but I went through quite of lot of trial and error before I ended up with something that worked and I was happy with.  And the process for making these is quite time consuming.  So I don't see myself making a tutorial.

I have put away most of my trees and ornaments but I still had one of my wall trees still up.

Here is a photo with the hats on the wall tree.

You ask how they are attached to the tree. I just bend the branches up into the crown of the hat or I tuck them in between the branches.

There are a couple of tutorials around the boards that are similar (but not the exact same) that might help some people looking to make their own.

Lovely. I read the link you posted. I would prefer to do mine in cardboard like yours. Can you offer any help regarding bending the cardboard brim to shape? Is there a trick to covering the brim with fabric so the edge does not look wonky? Thanks.

I shape the brim by rolling it up on the sides, rolling the brim around a paint brush handle. Not that you see it very well in the pics but I actually cut a strip of bias binding from the fabric I am using to cover the hat.  The bais binding hides the raw edges of the fabric covering both sides of the brim.
