Thanks for voting this Best Of 2012! I've really enjoyed this room during the past year and thought some of you might like to see the changes it's gone through since I first posted.  Smiley

Original post: Now that we're empty nesters, my husband and I decided to redo our upstairs, making it more comfortable for guests. My craft stuff used to be in a corner of our bonus room, but in our redo, I decided to move it all into one of the now-spare bedrooms. I felt that if I had less space to spread out in, I might actually be able to work neater. I'm definitely more organized now, because I have the added bonus of a full closet to hold extra supplies.

So, here's my new room! This first picture is a view from when you walk into the door. If you've ever been a swap partner of mine, keep your eyes open...you're likely to see some of your work prominently displayed!

ONE YEAR LATER: the shutters are up, and you can see that more "stuff" has made its way into the room.

When I'm sitting at my desk, here's the opposite wall. Gotta have some entertainment while I'm working; currently, I'm rewatching the entire series of "Lost" on Netflix.  Cheesy I love the large piece of furniture pictured here. It's from Nadeau, and is made totally of reclaimed wood.

ONE YEAR LATER: again, more stuff! My favorite: the vintage looking postcard rack (from Pottery Barn) on the right. It's filled with postcards that my grandmother received in the 20's and 30's. LOVE!

A closeup of the cubbies. This came from the Pottery Barn catalog, and I just love it! It houses several altered tins (some by amaryllisroze, Stifflersmom, and Killam Creative), little birds and jar of whimsies from Phizzychick, a Halloween truck from suereal, one of my daughter's baby shoes, some books my other daughter made, and various other nicknacks.

Around the corner, there's a reproduction library card catalog holder (Target.com!) that's great for holding small supplies, and for helping display some of my swap goods: clock by cackle, "crafty bitch" by Ramona Q, Cosmo Queen painting by foufigirl, tiny angel from Phizzychick, and tattooed man by thisbirdsabsurd. There are some tiny items from Knickertwist in the display box, but they're hard to see!

I thought about cleaning up my desk, but in the interest of full disclosure, I thought I'd leave it in its natural state. That's pretty much what it looks like all the time.  Cheesy Back behind, you can see the bookshelves that hold the things I need close at hand: my scrapbook papers, glues, charms, etc. On the wall, there's art from my daughter, BananaAmbush, plus items from Phizzychick, Stifflersmom, Fishstikks, Knickertwist, qazicat, and superhooker.

ONE YEAR LATER: I added a little side table that once belonged to my grandmother. It's great for holding the phone and for freeing up more shelf space.

Another view of the shelves:

I love this closet! We took out the rack, and I stuffed as many of the mismatched bookshelves that used to be in my kids' rooms as I could get in there! BananaAmbush made the graffiti sign in high school. I know she thinks I'm crazy, but I love it. Inside the closet, on the ribbon rack, there's a piece of work from my other daughter, katydidnot, that won second prize in the State Reflections contest when she was in middle school.

ONE YEAR LATER: One of the best things I did is remove the closet doors; they were always open anyway. This change really opened up the room. My parents gave me that great time card holder that you see to the left of the closet. (They know what I like!)

And there you have it. Thanks so much to all my wonderful swap partners (and my girls!) for helping me decorate. I pretty much spend hours every day in this room, and I love it. Funny aside note: my husband, Mr. 'coo, is an engineer. He told me that if he had to work in this space he would probably have a seizure. It's a little busy for him. Cheesy

Yay! I love it. It's totally fabulous and makes me totally jealous and totally want to redo my room. I loves all your fantastical furniture bits and bobs. I never find anything that cool. And I don't know what you're talking about... your desk is spotless compared to mine Wink

PS I think I need to make you something bigger for your room so's I can see it in your photos  Tongue

I wouldn't say no.  Cheesy

In the picture of the shelves behind the desk, you can just make out the awesome haunted house altoid tin you made me, sitting on the top white shelf to the right. Does that help?

Gaaaaah!  This is wonderful - and so is the mess on your desk.  I'm glad that you left it there so that we really know you're human.  Wink  That library cabinet is exactly what I've been looking for - saw one in an antiques store for $700, so, uh, no.  Who did the critter climbing out of the box that is hung on the wall.  I love that!

Nope. No good at all. I want to see something that screams "KNICKERS MADE RACKY SOMETHING!"

That was part of my daughter's Senior Exit show, done last May when she graduated from college. Check out the whole thing; it was phenomenal.  Smiley

I have no objection to this plan of action.  Cheesy
