The main reason I had joined Craftster was because I was searching for inspiration for Comic Book decoupage shoes and stumbled into this treasure trove of crafty goodness.  I finally got around to making my nerdy decoupage shoes.  I used vintage 1980 Star Wars comics that were in well loved condition and not worth anything to save as a comic book.  I used 10 comic books and poured over the endless panels cutting out various images that appealed to me.  Chewie, R2D2, and the Millennium Falcon were ones that I cut out a lot.  I found a great piece of Vader dueling shirtless, buff, Luke *hehe* that is the statement on the outside of the left shoe.
The left shoe is the battle between the Rebellion and the Empire.  The right shoe is strictly the Rebellion forces.  The sole edges are painted in a glittery black paint that reminds me of the night sky (visible in the original picture size linked below) and the upper edges are finished in a black cloth tape and a pin stripe of chrome paint.  The heel tip is also finished with the chrome paint.
These are the perfect pair of shoes for my nerdy self while still looking oh so chic  Wink Grin  Now I just need a place to wear them, it's been too wet/cold lately to wear anything other than boots.

I'm surprised no one has commented yet.  These are epic shoes! I'm totally wanting a pair of these. Smiley  You did an awesome job, hopefully it'll stop raining enough for you to take them out on a stroll soon.

Those shoes ROCK!! How long did it take you to make those?

Go to a party, that would be THE place to wear them.

Thanks!  They only took about 30 minutes to make.  The long part was finding and cutting out all the images.  Gluing them on took less than 10 minutes.

I do have a fellow Star Wars fan's 50th birthday party this weekend...

Thanks!  I didn't have a chance to go to the art store to get Modge Podge (it's out of my way) and I had some Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish laying around from past painting projects.  I used that to do this as I remember having luck in my old art classes with it.  I do want to actually get a sealant spray to finish them off before wearing them out full time.

Love these! I especially like that they tell a story with one shoe as the battle between the Empire and Rebellion and the other shoe the Rebellion. Great job!  Smiley

Thanks for the comments everyone.  I actually got a chance to wear them to my friend's birthday party on Saturday.  I think they spent more time off my feet than on as people always wanted to see the detail of the shoes.  They all instantly got the 'story' on each shoe without me having to point it out, which felt great.  They were very comfy and didn't fall apart at all.
The only thing I noticed, and had a feeling would happen, was the area where the foot naturally bends (the creases) is where the comics cracked.  I figured with normal wear it would happen, and it's not terribly noticeable unless you take them off an closely inspect them.

I *love* these shoes! How weather proof are they? I'd love to make some but unless they could put up with the occasional damp then (given where I live) there's not much chance they'd last a week!

Those are absolutely amazing! I love the way they look, and the fact that you made them yourself! Gorgeous. Did you buy new shoes to make them, or did you use a pair you already had?

Thanks!  The shoes were new to me, but were a great eBay find for under $10!

I don't dare try to take them somewhere damp as I don't want to risk anything.  However, I have heard of a silicone clear spray that can be sprayed on to help with the water resistance.

Great idea, I love these. How did you get the paper to stay on? And did you put anything over the top to help weather proof them?

As a huge nerd+a huge crafter, these are the coolest things ever. I am going to make these (well, not these, exactly, but something decoupaged with comic books). I have a blog, and I wanted to put these on there (linked and credited, of course) because they are the coolest decoupage things I found. Technically, the article is about Elmer's, which I know you didn't use, but I needed something that was decoupaged so that I could mention that modge podge is the same thing as thinned down Elmer's (you also didn't use Modge Podge, but someone replicating this project probably would, right?). If you want to see the article with your picture, it is at http://sticktoyourglueguns.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/a-love-letter-to-elmers/.

These look absolutely awesome.  I have made a few pairs of shoes along these lines and I have to ask, are you actually able to wear them without all your hard work cracking and flaking off?  If so, what sort of 'Podge are you using that actually works?

Wow, thanks everyone!!!  I was out of the country since Jan 5th and just got back to realize what happened *blush*.  I'm so glad you liked my shoes enough to put me up there as one of the top 5 of 2012!  I'll admit that I love these so much, I keep them on display in my living room with some of my costume pieces (including my Ruby slippers) and my trophies.  I've worn them a few times, and they actually held up to a misting/light rain that happened out of no where.  I bought more comics for more shoes, I just need to find the time with all my other projects lol.

winddragyn - I'm glad you liked them enough to include them in your blog as well :-D

iheartcooking - Since I used an acrylic gloss medium, it's kind of rubbery in it's consistency, so it only cracked a little, but there has been no flaking off at all.  You can hardly see the cracks, but there are where the toes bend on the shoe, as would be expected and is probably unavoidable all together.
