My husband often brings home 'garbage' for my crafting. A while ago he brought home a set of drawers from ikea and asked if I could do something with them.... ummm, yeah!

Here is the first completed project from the drawers.

Here's a sort of before pic (my set has different sized drawers) to give you an idea how it started out...

I have a couple of similar shrines on the go from the drawers and some different ideas for one or two of the others.

Hurrah for one man's trash!

Ooh, so pretty!  I love the glitter background, and I'm not a huge glitter fan.  The moon looks so serene.

I love that! Is the glitter kind of a teal color?

It is! And it was incredibly hard to photograph for some reason. It kept coming out navy blue so I just had to try and adjust it as best I could.

Thanks! Yep, I'm a paperclay addict and used it for the moon, houses, mushrooms, toadstools and teeny weeny ladybug too.

This is really beautiful.

Might be a silly question, but what do you do with them when they are done? Do you hang them up, set them on a shelf, etc.?

Off to research paper clay (such as can I make it myself).

That looks amazing!!!!  I'm fixing to redo a dresser and take out the small drawers.  I'll have to do something similar with the drawers.

Thanks! These have just been sitting on top of a cupboard, but you could just as easily hang these ones as there is a sort of 'lip' on the back, or even add a little hardware for hanging as the boxes are made of wood.

FYI I have tried making my own paperclay and it wasn't nearly as nice as the commercial stuff. If I'd messed around more it might have yielded better results but the mess, aggravation and wasted time wasn't worth it for me. Maybe working on a large scale it would ok but for smaller refined stuff I wasn't happy with it. BUT you can go to the manufacturers website and buy wholesale if you think you'll use a fair bit.

That is good to know. Next time I am in town I will see about picking some up to try out.

How beautiful!   How do you use paperclay to make smooth miniatures?  I once tried paperclay with kids, and couldn't get it smooth enough for them to enjoy making things.

Was it moist? I keep some water handy to smooth things out. If things start drying out you add a dab of water to reactivate it. If it cracks during drying just add a little to patch it up. You can also sand it once it's dry to make things really smooth.
