Gingerbread Carousel

I know I missed the deadline for the contest, but I thought I'd share our 2011 Gingerbread anyway! This year my son and I did the majority of the work. Not only did we created a gingerbread carousel but we also made some "ninjabreadmen"! I hope you all enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed building it!






Almost everything is edible. It is built on a turntable with 3 pcs of cardboard stacked up to make a nice solid base. The cone shaped roof was made by draping the dough over a foil-covered posterboard form and then baked. The roof is packed with wads of foil to help support the weight. The center column is also gingerbread, but we covered it with foil to mimic the mirrors you usually see on carousels. The floor is covered with rolled airheads, the horses are made with sugarwork. This is so cute, I love carousels and yours looks delicious! I love all of the bright colors, and the fruit stripe gum along the bottom is great! Also, hilariously enough, some friends of mine made ninjabreadmen too this year! I think they're hilarious.

What a great idea to use a cake form to do gingerbread! We have a similar wilton carousel form & may give this a go sometime. I think it came out beautiful & the foil mirror effect is grand! Way to go! (I would've voted for ya!)
