Hi everyone! I wanted to share a couple of t-shirts I made over.

I had two old black tees that I hadn't worn in years, so I decided to make some nebula shirts out of them. I bleached them, dyed them a wine color, bleached a little more, tied a few knots in them then dyed them blue. After they dried, I painted on some stars. I took a step back to look at the shirts, but something just felt wrong. Something was missing.

Of course, I said to myself after some careful thought. Space was missing it's horses.

Luckily, I had an odd sized scrap of horse fabric that had been awaiting a purpose.

I gave one to my sister for christmas and she loved it. I rock the other one  Smiley.
Would love to hear what you guys think!

I need a shirt like this like I need food and water!!!!!! Except with WHALES. Because I believe space whales are superior beings as compared to space horses Tongue

I can't believe how much effort you went to in order to get just the right effect! Bleach, dye, bleach, dye, paint, applique. Is that about the right order of operations? LOL!

i love the effect you got using bleach and dyes! i wonder if i could achieve something similar using just a black tee and bleach? i've never dyed before, or bleached a whole garment before. i love what you did though!

That is a lot of work for a shirt, but OH MY, it's totally worth it. I'm tempted to try this, and maybe see if I can track down a whale and a bowl of petunias and see how many people 'fess up to being as dorktastic as me and get the reference... *skips away plotting*

That's about right! I think the different dying and bleaching steps helped make it look like there was some depth on the shirt. And as we know space is pretty deep!  Cheesy I happened upon a free box of dyes that were headed to the trash at school so I had some kicking around to play with and try out.

Thanks for the love guys! I hope if you make your own Space *insert creature of choice here* shirt you post your project for us all to see and marvel!  Cheesy

I used the strongest heat n' bond on my horse fabric and simply cut the horses out and ironed them on. It's held on pretty good, but I still hand wash just to be on the safe side. (that and I don't want the dye to fade, I don't know if it would, but I play safe Smiley )

i really love the bleached out, and dyed effect.  i am curious, though....i was told once, by a Rit Dye representative, after asking about dying over some bleach that spilled on a favorite shirt, that dye would not stay in fabric that had been bleached "because the nature of the bleach."  (that basically it doesn't allow the color to stay, it would eventually wash out) does the color seem to stay in your shirts?

The color seems to have stayed in fine. I have only washed it a few times and do so by hand, but haven't noticed any dye washing out. I also didn't use Rit dye either (I've NEVER had any success with that brand); the brand I used was Pro Chemical dye, so maybe that makes a difference.

Thanks again for all the love everyone!!  Smiley

SO freaking COOL! You know, my hubby wears black tees and now I want to steal them and revamp them. We are both sort of space junkies so Nebulas are right up our alleys. However, I cannot see him rocking horses, LOL! They do look great on those T's though. It completes the shirt. And, who knew that creating your own Nebula could be that easy??? Seriously?!?!  I feel inspired. Now I wish this would work on all his nasty, stained WHITE T's....... I need to bang my head around for a while to come up with a solution....
