I'm pretty new to sewing, and I thought I had a good handle on the basics. However, I started a project yesterday, and found that my machine does not want to cooperate with me! Not sure how to explain it exactly, but it seems that the bobbin thread isn't really stitching - the needle picked it up just fine, but the top thread is basically just looping around it on the bottom of the fabric. I've re-threaded the top/bobbin a dozen times, adjusted tension, changed the needle and made sure it was inserted correctly, tried different threads/fabrics, and the presser foot is down when I sew.... I'm not sure what else to do. I've attached a photo of what the threads looks like underneath - light pink is bobbin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! It looks like a problem with your upper thread.  Is your presser foot UP when you are threading? Make sure the thread is going through the tension mechanism properly. Your problem is definitely the top thread.

What kind of machine do you have?

How old is it? Has it even been oiled or serviced?

Have you sewn with that bobbin before?

Are you using cheep thread on top?

It looks like your top tension might be too loose.
