I don't think there is a way to upload into the Craftster Photo hosting, but there is a Photobucket app which you could use to upload and then follow the usual path for Photobucket images.
(The disabled upload button is by far the most annoying non-feature of the iPad, indeed.)

I was just about to post this question too - I recently got an iPad and was hoping photo loading directly from the device would work. Does anyone know if this might be possible in the future?
