In December 2011 the Austin Modern Quilt Guild worked together to make a charity quilt.  Members of the guild donated 12.5 x 12.5 blocks, using only solid fabrics.  I collected all the blocks, made the top and back, helped two other guild members long-arm quilt it, and then I did the binding.  The final size is a generous twin.

The quilt was donated to Artists Against Cancer, a non-profit organization to help those who work in the arts in their battles against cancer.  Artists Against Cancer held a silent auction that December to raise money for our fellow quilter.

BTW, I love the tag I made for the back!!!

I love the solid colours and the modern designs of the blocks. I haven't used solids before but this is so inspiring in how great they can look

When I started quilting again about 4 years ago, I didn't even like solids.  Seemed too old fashioned.

In the past year or so, I've seen lots of solids being used in a very modern way.  I saw this photo on the LA Modern Quilt Guild flickr page and was in love... When I suggested we use that as our inspiration for a charity quilt, everyone in the guild was in!

And I'm always amazed at the creative work my guild friends can do.  Smiley
