I just started to quill last week. I'm still learning the basics but it is so fun. I have my whole family asking me to try to make this or that. Your work is very pretty! I'm going to try a monogram for a valentines present for the hubby. I home it turns out as awesome as yours Smiley

Wonderful job Smiley Your swap partner is very lucky.  I've always wanted to try to quill.  I've never physically held the paper, is it comparable to regular copy or bond paper as far as weight? From what you've learned, would it be possible to practice with normal paper before spending the money on the strips you see in the stores?

I did not spend the money on strips. I used different coloured cardstock, which I then cut into strips with a paper cutter.  From what I understand quilling paper is more like regular bond, but cardstock seemed to work well for my purposes. I would definitely try it with regular paper! Sure go for it, I think that perhaps it's easier with quilling paper, and it might help that the paper is very long, So then you don't have as many seams, but really, I would go for it! That's what I did!

This is so lovely and starry night-esque!

Did you use any special quilling tools to roll the paper around?

I know you can buy special tools and all, but I don't like spending money on something unless I know I am going to like it.  I actually just used round toothpicks. They seem to work just fine. I think that the other tools may wind tighter but I wasn't going for a very tight spiral, mine were mostly loose. so it worked really well for me.

Quite excellent. Some quilling is, IMO, rather trite. Yours is not, it is clever and very well done. Inspiring in fact.

I've been seeing this on pinterest, and I think that it is amazing!!! How cool!! I love the idea of making the font a really light gray....I really don't think that I would be able to do it free handed!
