Quilling is totally new to me. This is my practice run for a swap I am doing, and the two I intend on making for my swap partner will be a little different, however, I too, like these so I thought I would give it a try with the hubbies and my initials. You may be able to tell but I am heavily influenced by Yulia Brodskaya (http://www.artyulia.com/index.php/Illustration) whom I love. Once I figured out how to really work with the paper, it became a lot easier.

To do this I basically picked a font I wanted, then printed the letter out on a piece of cardstock with the font being in a very light grey.  Then I cut out the paper to 1/4 inch thick, then I began the outline of the letter, using a set of needlenose pliers to get hard corners.

Then I once I had that all done I began to fill it in with doodles of different shapes and spirals of different colours of paper.

I mirrored some of the shapes in the two Letters that I did so that when they went up together they would look a like a pair.

I have a bit more info on how I did it and more photos on my blog should you be interested: http://a-can-of-crafty-curiosities.blogspot.com/2012/01/paper-quilled-monogram-letter-m.html

Wow, you claimed me for quilled letters and didn't even know how to do it - very impressive!  From what I see you have already learned, I can't wait to see what I receive.

Those are so lovely, and thank you for the link to Yulia Brodskaya..how did you stick the curled paper to the cardstock?

I stuck it on with just regular school glue, it dries clear. I just put glue all along the edge of the paper and held it down for a second or two.

Those are really pretty. I like the color combinations that you used as well as the way you kind of mirrored the designs.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.
