01/09/12 - Fanatic Friends of Craftster Now Have the Option to Turn Off Ads!Hey, all!
Exciting news for the new year! If you're a Fanatic Friend of Craftster, you now have an exciting and oft-requested feature......
You can turn off the ads!!!
We've given our current Fanatic Friends of Craftster the ability to turn off all ads on Craftster!! 
Yep, it's true! If you're a Fanatic Friend of Craftster (FFOC) just go to the
home page and look under the right portion of the long ad in the middle (the "leaderboard"). There you'll see a link that says "Turn advertisements off". Just click that and
*poof!* the ads are gone!
Don't worry, if for any reason you'd still like to see ads on Craftster, just go
back to the
home page. The link will now say "Turn advertisements on" and if you click that, they'll return! And if you turn them on and decide you like the site better without, you can always turn them off the same way.
Wait. Wasn't this an option previously?Well, for a brief time at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008, we did offer the option to turn off advertisements for
all FOCs. Unfortunately, this became financially unsound, and we had to reverse the decision (although anyone who had opted out of ads was able to keep them off).
How is this time/option different?This time around, we are not offering this option to all Friends of Craftster. This option is only available to Fanatic Friends of Craftster. Also, to offset the revenue we lose by turning off the advertisements, we've increased the cost of a Fanatic Friend of Craftster membership from $24 to $30. However, you can still get a regular Friend of Craftster membership (without the ad option) for $12.
Also, anyone who is currently an FFOC (with a $24 payment) will have this benefit until their membership expires! I had the ads off but now they're back on!We don't believe that we've turned ads back on for anyone who had them off from the 2007/2008 edition and
ISN'T currently a Fanatic Friend of Craftster, but if so, please
contact us.
What if I still want to see the ads from small businesses?Unfortunately, at this time, there is no option to pick and choose which ads you'd like to see (ie crafty vs non-crafty). However, if you'd like to check in on which small businesses are advertising with us, please feel free to browse our small business ad information page:

I'm a small business owner who has an ad on Craftster. Will the number of views my ads receive drop?All guests, members, and non-Fanatic Friends of Craftster will still see all the ads on the site. We don't anticipate that this option will have a drastic effect on the number of views your ads receive.
We may still tweak a few more minor things like where the toggle switch is placed, or more specifically add more of them. We also may, if possible, turn on ONLY in house ads (meaning ads that direct you only to other parts of Craftster, ie the Craftster shop, or a current challenge, etc.), but none of that is currently in the works. Just letting you know in case it becomes an option!
