This sounds fun.  I've been working on making some stuffed animal patterns so the timing of this swap is perfect.  I'll have to go fill out the questionnaire.

The reason for sending it flat and not stuffed is a $6. difference, in USPS land. If you can send flat, in the small size flat rate box, it costs about $5.20 plus the DC for 70 cents. If you send a stuffed  stuffie, you'd probably have to use the medium box which costs $10.95, plus the DC.

And postage rates go up on Jan. 22, and I don't know the amount for the flat rate boxes.

So sending flat is a nice option, in my opinion.

And darn, this swap looks like so much fun but I've got alot on my plate right now.

I don't usually use the flat rate box, myself. I admit that I don't remember what I usually spend to send a stuffed animal/doll but I don't think that I spend $11.00.  I just checked on line and first class mail (parcel up to 13 ounces only costs $3.41 as of June, 2011.  A 3 pound parcel going from zone 1 & 2 to zone 8 cost $10.69 (the farthest distance), which is less than the large flat rate box (which isn't all that large).  I doubt that these stuffies will weigh that much.
Sometimes you can't always judge how your stuffie will look until it is stuffed.  Then if you don't like the way it looks, you can remove the stuffing and do a little tweaking with your sewing; if it is knit or crocheted, then you might want to frog it.  This is just my opinion.  I can't speak for others.
