Smash books, anyone?

So, this is a slightly different kind of scrapbooking that I've seen a lot of elsewhere on the Internet, but not much of at all here on Craftster!

The concept is very similar to the "junk journals" you might have seen. A Smash Book is just a brand name, ready made (by K and Company), spiral bound book filled with different patterned papers and photos that you use to "smash" in whatever you've got laying around. You can use it kind of like a traditional scrapbook, with more thought out layouts, or you can just stick in whatever you want, wherever you want, on the spur of the moment.

I got two for Christmas, and I'm having a lot of fun with the first one. They come in a few different themes. The one I'm working in is the black one, the Mod Style. They can all be found here, on the K and Company website.





Those are just my first two pages. I'm treating mine a little more like a traditional scrapbook (which I think is good practice, as I'd like to start scrapbooking for "real" soon). You can see some close ups on my blog, if you'd like:  http://emilymayhem.blogspot.com/2012/01/smashing.html.

I found mine at Michaels, but they also have them at Archiver's, I've heard, and a bunch of places online.

I like this a lot! I'm not really a big fan of traditional scrapbooking, with the big stickers and whatnot, but this looks more journal-like. I'll have to keep an eye out for some of these books, and a craftalong would be super fun!

I got one for my boyfriend, and then seeing how much he enjoyed his, got my own! Yours totally rocks! I might post of my pages if I can find my camera. Awesome job! Yay Smash books!

One of my favorite things about this kind of journal/scrapbook is that I feel totally comfortable doing pages about events (like my Christmas and New Years pages from the first post) and just random things I love (like Starbucks). It doesn't have to be one or the other!

I just got a Smash book last week and am loving it! I didn't even know that people were doing this already (via junk journals)! I'm so obsessed!! My friend and I are doing a swap of smash books. I love seeing what other people put in!!

For a smash book this looks very neat and organised, that's unusual and its also nice to see.  I love the neat layouts you've created here and how you've clearly taken time over "throwing" this together wonderful work and I like the colours too!!

Love the smashbook inspiration. I've been working on altered book journals for years, but really love the smashbook/Junk journal style. The K & Co. line has a lot of eye candy, and I buy a few pieces here and there, but I really want to make one from scratch. Thanks for sharing this.

I love this!  You will have a nice book of your likes, memories, etc. I like that you can smash whatever you feel like into it...not just flat pictures and such!

I also recently heard about this.  Smash book, junk journal.
I decided to make one for my friend's daughter for her birthday last month. I showed it to the lady's at work and they loved it. One of the lady's hired me to make two for her kids graduation. This is what I'm working on right now.
  Right now, these are my favorite things to make.
