So being vegetarian I had never had a Big Mac and wanted to try one, so my husband and I made them at home.  I'm sure they weren't perfectly the same as the ones from Micky Ds, but I'd say they were pretty tasty.

Now how we did it (in case your New Year's resolution has nothing to do with eating healthy  Wink)

Ingredients
Veggie burger patties (or regular burger patties) of your choice (we used what we could get at the store that day)--1 per Big Mac (if you have a really big appetite you could use 2)

Burger Buns or kaisers--1 per Big Mac (make sure they are tall enough to slice into thirds)

Lettuce

Cheese--real or processed (we used processed for that authentic taste)--2 slices per Big Mac

Thousand Island Dressing (it's not identical to Big Mac sauce but close enough)

Pickles (we used yum yums but you could probably use any sort, and I believe my husband said they should have been dill pickles)

French Fries (to round out this healthy meal)

Now to actually assemble the burgers

Step 1:
Cook your burgers and Fries how ever you normally would.

Step 2:
Prep Buns.  It is helpful to have large buns for this, as we sliced the bun to give the 3 layers.  Simply slice your bun into thirds instead of the regular halves.

Step 3:
Once the burgers are cooked slice the patty in half to give 2 thin patties.  (we cut them in half the other way first so that we had a flat edge to cut on).  Omit this step if you are using 2 patties per burger.  I can't eat 2 veggie burgers in a sitting which is why we sliced the burgers in half.  (also the finished product was very tall as is was so I'm not sure how I would get my mouth around one that used 2 whole burgers)

Step 4:

Start Assembling: On the bottom piece of bun put half your burger patty, a slice of cheese, lettuce, and pickles.

Step 5:
Spread Thousand Island Dressing on the middle piece of bun and put it on the bottom assembly.

Step 6:
On top of the middle piece of bun place second burger half, another slice of cheese, and lettuce.  Spread ketchup on the inside of the top of the bun and add it on top.

Step 7:
Add french fries and enjoy.

(in case you are wondering Thousand Island Dressing is great on fries too)

My mouth is watering!  I can't remember the last time I had fast food, but when I did, the Big Mac was my fave.  Love your at home, healthier version.  Might have to try it soon!
