Sock knitting guides anyone?

are there any sock knitting guides anyone can recommend?
I have a load of fingering/sock weight, black yarn and would like to get knitting on socks for xmas presents this year (kinda slow knitter with a very large family lol).

I've found patterns I like, but would like to know if it'ssonething I can do before trying, you know what I mean, you gate to the heel and think "holy cow how do I do this bit?!"... well. I do lol.

When I decided to learn socks, I wanted toe-up socks, two at a time on one circular needle. Why? Because then I'd only have to buy ONE needle, and would be able to dictate the height of my socks without fear of running out of yarn. It was awesome These sites were absolutely invaluable to me:

I'm not sure if you preferr to knit 1 at a time or 2 at a time socks.. but I fell in love with a book called 2 at a time socks by Melissa Morgan-Oaks. It's really easy to follow a long and it has patterns in it too.

I was tempted to buy that book when I saw it in a Mary Maxim catalogue! But then I got thrifty-minded and hunted down an online resource (Silver's Sock Class). I wonder how similar the techniques are...
