I'm from the eastern country, where health meal is not respected Cheesy. Everybody eats heavy roasted full with cholesterol meat and very sweet sweet things. Sometimes I thing I'm a white raven, only shouting about healthy diet habits Sad

Hey everyone, how's it going with your healthy eating habits? I think I've transitioned off of the sugar bingeing thing enough by doing low carb to get back to eating more balanced. I think I'm going to do the Game On diet, which is really about creating healthy habits but it adds a fun game element to it that makes it fun if you're competitive. If anyone's interested in joining a round (lasts 4 weeks), get a copy of the book and head on over to the OT thread!

We just spent a few days camping with G-ma in her motor home so I planned the menu carefully, taking everything we'd need and not much more. It actually worked out pretty well and made me think about meal planning for real at home. I compost too much produce as I try to buy everything we might possibly need on our weekly shopping trips. I can't get to the grocery store often so I tend to over do it and then waste happens. It's not good.
I'm going to try a little menu planning and see how it goes. I'll make sure good snacks are included, that's where people tend to fall off the wagon I think. Meandering over to the corner store for a little sugary something is an easy habit to fall into.

My sister keeps a basket on her counter of 100 calories or less snacks...sweet things, salty things, crunchy things, etc.

I have a friend who does that but she also has a small shot glass with strips of paper that she writes on and throws into the basket when she takes a snack:  she puts on the date, emotion, what she was craving...at the end of the week, she reviews it and counts it...she said it really helps her with mindless snacking--which is what I tend to do!

Anything she takes out of the fridge or freezer is also written on the paper...

I think I might try that!

CLM--good to see you back!

That is such a good idea! My worst habit is that I just snack when I'm bored or doing something mindless. Having to fill out a piece of paper every time I want a snack may get me to stop! I try to keep lots of fresh, interesting fruits and veggies in the fridge. So if I do want a snack, I have some strawberries or a plum or something. I try to follow this list from Fitday. I'm just such a snacker, its so hard to stop! haha!

Here are the tips with out the explanations:
1. Don’t Skip Meals
2. Don’t Buy Unhealthy Foods
3. Drink Water, and Lots of it
4. Keep Busy
5. Put Down the Remote
6. Brush Your Teeth
7. Treat Yourself

I do this , I write a menu for the week ahead, and buy in the food I will need for it, I only buy so make 'treats' and once they are gone they are gone for the week.
I make sure the fruit bowl is full, and only buy in fresh produce through the week, milk bread and such like, I save a lot of money now, as before I shopped blindly lol just throwing stuff in the shopping trolley

Scrappaly--I have an index card on top of my tv and computer that lists things to do instead of snack...so when I feel like munching away, I grab the list and find something on it to do...here are some of the things that help me:

1. Get up and walk around
2. Clean up something in the house
3. Give myself a pedicure
4. Take a nice long bubble bath
5. Zumba
6. Start a knit or crochet project
7.  Cut scraps into needed sizes

etc. etc. Make your own list of distractions!

Anything to distract me even if it is only 1/2 hour...my worst times are from 8-10 pm...but, I am following Bob Harper's
"Skinny Rules"...go to bed slightly hungry...and so it seems to be a goal I can do!

Hey peeps! How's it going? I've made a new commitment to eating low carb, and dropped 11 lbs in 3 weeks! (as you can see from earlier posts I was doing it off and on, but finally decided to stick with it)I'm feeling really good and my sugar cravings are gone.

Tonight I'm making this~

I hear ya! I love bread, but once I get over the first few days I honestly don't crave it anymore.
