Hello! Some were interested in the faux batik process that I did on
The Duddha. It's really fun and easy. I did this with a group of 7-year-olds with great success, so it's a nice project to do with kids too. It does take a bit of time to do because of drying time between steps.
a demo piece I did with the kids
1) gather what you'll need.
-GEL GLUE (WHITE WILL NOT WORK FOR THIS)
-something to mix paint on
-acrylic paints- even the cheap craft store ones work fine for this
-white cotton fabric- washed and ironed
-water
-a container big enough to soak your fabric in.
-freezer paper (optional)
2)Using your glue, draw on your design. You can also brush it on. Wherever your glue is, the fabric will be white. I put down a piece of freezer paper under my fabric just so the glue that seeps through won't stick to anything. You can also draw a design on paper, put it under your fabric so you can trace your design with the glue. This is what I did with the kids and it worked well. If in fact your paper does stick to your fabric, it'll come off when you soak it later.
Now you just need to wait for the glue to be completely dry before you proceed. Overnight is a good idea.
3)The fun part. Using VERY watered down acrylics (after all, you are just dying/staining the fabric) begin to paint your fabric as you like.
4)Let this dry completely. Speed it up with your hair dryer if you are excited about seeing your results!
5)Soak in luke warm water for about 20 minutes, until the glue disolves. You can agitate it a bit. I wash mine by hand with a little mild soap too, just to get all the glue off.
6)Let dry and then enjoy your work!
