I saw some Star Trek TOS inspired bathrobes on thinkgeek and decided to make the Captain Kirk version for The ManFlesh for xmas.

Before I boxed it up to wrap I used no fewer than twenty-four (24) layers of the lint roller to get all the dog hair and polar fleece fuzzies off of it.  He's been wearing it since xmas day, so the dog hair is back for the photos.   Sad

Insignia (simplified because I was finishing this up on Dec 24 and was winging it)

The cuffed sleeve where I inserted a metallic bias tape.  The store-bought version has 3 bands of gold, but no cuff so I took advantage of the cuff feature for insertion.

I made a few modifications to the pattern, the width of the tie loops being one - wider seemed both more in keeping with what Kirk would have had AND easier to turn.

One of the Alien Shedders caught and subdued by The CaptainFlesh:

And finally, the pattern I used.   Copyright 1966, it was from my mom's stash; I knew she had a mens robe pattern so I figured I save myself the money of buying one.  It's fun that it's a similar era as ST:TOS, but it has some neat details that made it take longer to assemble, like the cuffs and raglan sleeves.

I know exactly which one you are talking about! I have that in my plans for 2012, and I'm glad I wasn't the only person who wanted to geekout a ST man too. Lol great job. I sure yours was a mere fraction of think geeks site too.

I love this and so would my hubby, and with his b.day coming up I should probably get on this right away. That would net me serious brownie (read lie ins) points.

Love the gold detail and insignia (if that's the word)

What's funny is that the only Star Trek he cares at all about it TOS.  I'm the Trekkie-type in the family.  Wink  I figure it's like a man buying sexy lingerie for his woman, me putting him in an Star Trek robe.  Wink

Actually this one could easily have cost more than store bought IF I hadn't gotten fleece on sale, risked cutting the "lapel" fleece perpendicular to the grain and already had a free pattern.  BUT I did all those things, and already had the metallic material for the wrists detail and insignia.   Roll Eyes

Thank you!  Please, please, please share your version when you're done!

Thanks!  I'm glad I got shots while I could, it's rather quickly turning a greyer version of the gold from dog hair.  They LOVE that thing.

That's hilarious. I pinned it and hope to make if for my husband in the future.

That's awesome.  I love it.

I wonder how hard it would be to make a Next Gen or DS9 one?
