So for my boyfriend's first birthday at college (and our first long-distance boyfriend) I decided to do some nerdy embroidery for him to hang up on his wall since he goes to nerd college:)
What I did for these was I did the embroidery and then cut a cardboard square out that I glued the embroidery to. Then I decoupaged some fabric onto the back and then I decoupaged fabric on as like a binding of a quilt because I wanted to give it a quilt feel.
