Stash-Busting Resolution Dotees

Have you made some New Year’s Resolutions? Do you want a sweet reminder of your goals? This is the swap for you. You will list 5 – 10 resolutions that you’d like to accomplish this year. Your swapping partners will convo and choose one resolution to craft a dotee for you. The finished dolls can be hung on your mirror, your fridge, or in your craft room to help keep you on track and bring a smile to your face when tempted to stray.

We will swap in groups of 3 or 4 people and make one doll per partner. I encourage you to make one for yourself – to make the resolution tangible. A dotee doll is 3 – 5” tall, with a loop for hanging and sometimes a tail with embellishments. They generally have a face but do not require limbs, unless that is part of your design. And try to use what you already have – this is a no-shopping swap. Dotees require little fabric or felt and there are many ways to make the faces and embellishments. The dotees don’t need to have the message printed on them – that is entirely up to the maker. I like adding text so I did that with the example doll.

Dotees can be made from fabric, felt, paper, crocheted, knitted, woven or any other material you work with.
Check out the galleries to see the unlimited options.

Here are some resolutions to get you started:

      Drink Less Alcohol
      Eat Healthy Food
      Get a Better Education
      Get a Better Job
      Get Fit
      Lose Weight
      Manage Debt
      Manage Stress
      Quit Smoking
      Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
      Save Money
      Take a Trip
           Volunteer to Help Others
     (http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/New-Years-Resolutions.shtml)

Some of mine are to:

Use what I have – no impulse craft shopping!
   Sightsee in my own city
        Go to museums
        Go outside
        Take time for friends
        Organize! Organize! Organize!

Thank you Smartt. This is a great way for me to get back into swaps. I've busted all my yarn, but I have tons of fabric and other stuff to put in to a dotee. I hope you can find me a suitable partner.

Okay, I'm starting to get excited. I'm trying to think up ways to incorporate these resolutions into a 3" doll:

eat more healthy
less snacking
more water
less alcohol
walk/exercise
positive attitude
save money (almost all of us have this one)
learn a new craft
send birthday cards
get a new tattoo

So you think those over also and we'll see who else joins us this week. Have a lovely evening all - I'm sorting and organizing my closet while watching "The Walking Dead" marathon.

Happy New Year!

Actually all my dotee swaps have been "stash-busters".  I always used supplies I had on hand as it it doesn't take that much.  But this one has a twist, trying to figure out how to make one that fits my partners New Years resolution.  That might be a little tough.  I hope I have a group of partners that have easy themes.

Coordinating your color/pattern of fabric seems the easiest way to incorporate those themes. Like, drink more water might be a solid or swirly blue, eat healthy and money could both be green, send birthday cards could be orange, yellow, and red (for the flames of the birthday candles, of course!). You could also see the themes in charms on the tails. If you wanted to veer away from traditional dotees, you could make them in the shape of whatever you wanted- veggies for healthy eating, water bottle for more water, the tool used for your new craft, a dollar sign for money, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Just some thoughts. Smiley
