December Themes

Photo © 2011 J. Ronald Lee, CC Attribution 3.0

Color: Metallic
Pattern: Folk-art.
For: The House. And it doesn't have to be holiday themed unless you want it to be.
Challenge: We're in the last month. It's a sprint to the finish. Look back at the goals you made in January and see how you did. Or just tally up all the projects you've made from stash and give yourself a big pat on the back.

And on a purely administrative note:  Next year will be the 5th year of the DeStash-Along here on Craftster!  I'd welcome any suggestions on how to make it better than ever, or mark the occasion in some way.

gaudi--I think that making me think whether I could use something from my stash has made me much more aware of it...and it has challenged my creativity to find new ways to use my stash...maybe next year we could post some of our more troublesome supplies to get ideas of how to use them?

For instance, I have some pink fingering wool that I was given...I am not a fan of pink for myself...what can I use it for?

I also have less than 1/2 yard pieces of novelty fabrics with very obvious prints...I need more ideas on what I can make with these smaller pieces...

BTW--you have done a fantastic job...and everyone here has done a great job, making my moderation of this thread very easy! Thanks all! Cheesy

De-stashing and re-stashing seem to go hand in hand for me. The more I use up the more people give me to make something out of & I'll never turn anything away for it just to go in the dustbin Grin

The only supplies I have bought this year have been two skeins of yarn for a hat I finished the other day and frogged last night  Roll Eyes and a metre of pink polyester fleece to add to some navy scraps I had which made me a lovely warm tunic  Grin

Currently working on a doll for my parents. I thought if I made her look Xmassy they could have her out on display during the winter but not feel obligated to have her on show the rest of the year. My intention is to make her holding a song book and paint her mouth wide like she's singing. We'll see if she agrees as I'm making her  Wink There will be some metallic elements to her clothing as the fabric samples I'm using are a deep red with gold and thats about as close as I can get to being on theme again  Cheesy

Sounds lovely!  I am glad to see you joined the Junker Jane Swap!  That will use up some of my smaller scrap pieces!

I am horrid with yarn...I never know what I am in the mood to make, so I keep a bit of everything in stock...I currently have eight projects on needles... Smiley

My yarn supply is dwindling, it's a good thing I like scrappy projects  Cheesy
I'm really looking forward to the Junker Jane swap, I have a lot of small fabric samples and a lovely stained/tea dyed piece of tablecloth to use  Grin

I have taken to selling my yarn and fabrics.

So often I would be pulled in by a good sale with no idea what to do with the crafting supply once I managed to get it home.

And now, very little of it speaks to me. So off it goes to someone else. Smiley

Hopefully, just the stuff you know you won't be using!!!  I think I would have an anxiety attack if anyone even touched a ball of yarn...

I have a huge basket of leftovers that I plan on doing one of my mixed yarn scarves or hats...I found out my one niece loves those types of scarves the best! Cheesy

Yeah, I agree. But when a ball of yarn endears frustration instead of love?

Besides, I spend the same now being much more choosy with what I buy. I am a happier girl. Smiley

I wish I could show you guys some of the things I've made. But living in a crafty house with one working camera makes that difficult. Wink

I agree rottenlittleboys...I have been much happier being choosy and buying less...I found a little trick that works for me for online purchases....many of the sites have WISHLISTS...when I feel the urge to shop, I put everything on my wishlist instead of in my cart...I then leave it alone for a couple of days...then I go through and see if there is anything that truly speaks to me...9 out of 10 times, I delete it! I gave away a lot of craft supplies I knew I'd  never use in a Givers and Needers swap about a year ago. I know if I was more organized, I'd buy less. I could find what I have instead of buying it all over again, and I could easily see what I have and be reminded to use it! It's been a slow process. I did get the paper sorted into two file boxes and one zippered plastic bag, I need a couple more boxes to finish it properly.
I took apart a lot of old junk jewelry and raided my stash of odd beads and made book thong style bookmarks-I even used cord/floss/yarn scraps from stash. Made about 55 of them! They didn't sell well at the craft show but oh well! It wasn't the best venue, and I sold other things. And they cost nothing but time to make.
I have added to my stash, but I've been choosey about it. Family members are giving me junk jewelry now, yay! I can never have too much of that.  And my nephew and my little sis are giving me old computer bits. I made several brooches from small pieces of circuit board, and have larger ones saved for different projects, and I even made a lamp from old keyboards! Those things will be stock for a sale next year.
I haven't been following the monthly challenges, or posting pictures, or much of anything but reading along when I can-life has been very hectic. But you all are inspiring, and I'm looking forward to next year's DeStash-along and next year's 50 projects.
