The Nyckelharpa is a lovely, strange beast!

So, my wife had to go to the doctor today because she hyper-extended her wrist a few days ago. As it turns out, she strained her tendons pretty bad and the doc gave her a brace that she has to wear for the next two weeks. When she got home from the doctor's, she asked me if I would like to decorate it for her. Needless to say, I was very excited to do so!

Here's how the brace looked to begin with (with the first bits of sharpie drawing on the thumb piece):

And, after more black sharpie and a bit of chainmaile:

I decided after it was finished that it was no longer a wrist-brace. Far from it. It has now become a futuristic battle-gauntlet that prevents her wrist from snapping back when she fires her super compact, hand-held Railgun. She fires the Railgun with her off-hand, of course, because her dominant hand needs to be free to wield her Tesla Sword!

My wife sent me a modified picture with her thoughts on the subject:

And now she'll happily follow her doctors instructions and actually wear the brace for the full two weeks Cheesy

Mission accomplished!

Out of curiosity, did you use aluminum rings for the chainmail?  Otherwise I would think the weight (even in that small amount) would be counter-productive in the healing process.  It looks sweet either way.  Rock on!

This looks totally amazing. I used to sell those wrist braces at work and everyone complained that they looked horrible - I think you have solved that problem rather admirably!

This is awesome what a great idea! Totally gave me an idea on what to do to my braces to make them look better! I am supposed to wear them because of easy dislocations and carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists but I dont wear them because they are annoying. Maybe if I made them look awesome I would wear them more! I think Zebra (for my Ehlers Danlos Sydrome) and chainmaille will do the trick! Cheesy

Roll Eyes Way to go, wrist supports are sooo boring if you have to wear them. You made this look so cool for your wife, I'm sure she'll get lots of smiles from others wearing this.

This is the most awesome wrist brace EVER. I had to use one for a bit, and all I did was try to paint it purple. It looked saaaddd... She's lucky, you're talented, and now you have me wondering what a Tesla sword would be like, and wanting to make one. Cheesy
Very cool!

Totally awesome, finally tendonitis is cool! I am soooo doing this to my wrist brace! I hate wearing the thing, maybe this'll make me like it a bit more!

Kudos!

I have to wear a wrist brace on and off periodically when my tendonitis flares up (years of waitressing followed by computer use for over 15 years will do that to a girl).  This is a helluva a better way to sport one!  Awesome modify, seriously.  I like the lacing that's part of the 'original' brace, adds to the overall feel of the piece after modification Smiley
