I'm not looking for a pattern or anything..I just need to know:

What fabric is used for the cuffs/wristbands and waistband of hoodies? (I've googled it and came up with a lot of mixed answers)
What would be the best type of stitch to use to sew the cuffs/wristbands and waistbands on? (when I look at a sweater I can't quite tell what stitch is used to sew any of the parts together...)

I'm VERY new to sewing. Meaning I bought my sewing machine yesterday...So any help is appreciated Cheesy

I know that fabric as "ribbing" and it is pretty hard to find already in cuff/neckband form. You can use a ribbed fabric like this http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat560004&PRODID=xprd757791 or other stretchy knit fabric (like a t-shirt). Part of sewing neckbands is stretching the band a bit as you sew so that it lays flat against your skin.
The stitching on sweatshirts you buy at the store is done on a special machine called a serger. It sews that wide, loopy stitch and is used for stretch fabrics because the stitches stretch. You can use a regular machine to sew stretch fabric though - here's a helpful thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=367555.0
