I decided a week before Christmas that I should make a Scrabble pillow for my Aunt. I'm a little crazy. I really wanted to make her something special because she is awesome and always admires the things I make. Recently, we've been playing a lot of Words with Friends together, so I thought a Scrabble pillow would be a fun personal gift.
First off, I want to thank greeneggsandham for the idea. She posted a Scrabble pillow she made a while back, and it was beautiful and I knew I needed to make one. You can see it here:

So, I did it with my own brain power. Though its really not even close to perfect, I still love how it turned out. Now, onto the pillow!
TADA! Scrabble pillow! How I managed to get this done before Christmas, I will never know. I used the freezer paper method for stenciling on the letters. And, yes I know, I cheated. Names aren't legal in the Scrabble rules. Meh. Whatev. ^_^

The back is flannel, so it is soft and snuggly!
And now, some progress shots. I don't have all the steps of it in pictures, because I was so focused on getting it done at the end. So, here is what I have:
To start, I used Microsoft Excel to make a diagram of how I wanted the pillow to look and where all the letters and pieces would go. It took a few tries, but I eventually got all the names that I wanted on there. I then cut out all the colors out of some plain cotton fabric. Then it was time for making some letters.
Here are the little squares, that I cut out with a quilting ruler and a rotary cutter. They measured to be an 1 1/2". These ones have the freezer paper ironed onto them and are ready for paint.

I didn't get a shot of the rows, but here with all the rows sewn together:
Yes, its a little wonky and a little puckering here and there.
Here is the 2 1/2" border I added. And then I sewed the flannel backing on, stuffed it with polyfil and hand stitched it closed.

It was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it in the end. It made her cry, and I was told that I won Christmas. Yay! ^_^
