If you are using square up on a i phone do you need a cell plan for it to work? or can you just use an unlocked phone and free WiFi?

I'm trying to figure out what I need to get to make the square up work and whats best for our business.
I don't need a smart phone and really don't want to pay more each month for one just to use it for the square up app and right now a whole new tablet computer isn't in our crafting budget.

From everything I've read about it, you do need an Iphone or something like it and a plan. 90% of the exhibitors I know who use the Square go with Verizon.

There's NOTHING at a craft show, or on Etsy, anybody NEEDS. NOTHING.

Square is AMAZING!!!  You do have to have a smart phone and wifi or data to use it.  We use it at our storefront and will be using it at fairs once we get some scheduled.

You will link your bank account to it and they only charge a small percentage out of the total.  Nicest thing is that you can add or remove tax with just the touch of a button.

We got an iPad for it where you can have the Square Register APP and you can put in your inventory.  That way you know exactly what you sold.

I have both a Square UP & a Paypal Here reader. I personally like the Paypal reader better. The fees are about the same and it is a trusted name that people recognize easily (they feel more comfortable)

You can itemize an inventory on Paypal and add or remove sales tax. It also gives an option to email or text a receipt to the customer instantly.
