Hello! This is my first post ever on craftster! Yaay Cheesy

I'm a knitter/crocheter, but the projects in the needlework category inspired me to learn how to do embroidery. Thank you to Mary Corbet's Needle 'n Thread for the stitch tutorials Smiley

These 2 pillows are going to be Christmas gifts for my cousins who I grew up with. The older one loves Hello Kitty and the younger one likes penguins and anything Hawaiian. I found the pictures on google. Both pillows used half of a fat quarter each and are pretty small, but would look cute on the bed, right? It took me 2 days to stitch, sew and stuff both Grin

[sorry the pics aren't so good. i can't find my digital camera and resorted to my phone  Undecided]

Hello Kitty was first. The body is outlined in split stitch. The bow is satin stitch and outlined in split stitch. Eyes/nose are satin stitch and the clothes are back stitch. And the letters are a mix of satin, back stitch and French knots (I don’t know why but I love making those Tongue)

For the Hula penguin, I got a little more ambitious. This is the picture I used http://scrapbookclubhouse.typepad.com/weblog/images/2008/07/19/penguin_chick_2.gif
Body is satin stitch outlined in split stitch. Nose and feet in back stitch. Flower is threaded running stitch for petals, and then back stitch/French knot for the middle. Eyes are satin stitch, eyelashes back stitch. Bra is back stitch and French knots, and same stitches for the letters. Now the skirt was tricky. It took a while to figure out how to go about it. I outlined the skirt in back stitch, the inside is a bunch of straight stitches, and then for the fringe, I made a bunch of long loops on the bottom and knotted them in the back so it wouldn’t unravel, and then cut the loops in half. Time consuming but well worth it Tongue

My only problem was trying to iron out the hoop lines. You can't really tell by the pics, but there are hoop outlines that just won’t come out. Any suggestions?

Wow, first embroidery project! I have been nervous to try embroidery by hand, but you have inspired me to at least try. The Hello Kitty is super cute!

Aww thanks! This needlework category actually inspired me to start embroidery too and I'm glad I've done the same for you Smiley And it's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Good luck!

@kittykill, stueloff & Puppy_girl thanks so much!
