Here's the bag I made for my future sister-in-law-in-law (i.e. my wife's brother's future wife... huh wha?) Smiley

It is tote bag style, but smaller purse size in her wedding colors...

I custom made the label with their names and wedding date...

It has two outside pockets...

And one inside zipper pocket...

I reinforced the bottom and added feet just like the pros...

Close up detail...

Ta-da!...

So what do you think?

PS: I also have a matching cell phone cozy that I haven't finished yet. I'll post pics when done. Thanks!

I love it. Very professional looking. The label on the inside is a very nice touch.

That's awesome! I love the colors. How did you make the tag?

I should also point out that the material is a very summery linen-look for both the shell material colors and a cotton blend for the lining. I stabilized the inside and outside with interfacing.

This is my first shot at a tote bag and made this without the use of a pattern... I figured totes shouldn't be too tough. The tab magnetic snap closure was an experiment from a bag I saw in a store. I'm not sure if I like it.

The tag was made with basic printer t-shirt transfer paper. I made a 4" square, fused it onto the same material as the shell, then folded in the sides and sew. The other way I've done this is to make a single fold label and sew it into the lining. But this way, it seems more visible.

The bag isn't intended to be used during the wedding... just as a wedding gift. My hope is that she'll like it and that when she uses it, she can be reminded of her big day.

Beautiful!

Not only will this serve as a reminder of her Big Day, it will serve as a reminder about your role in her Big Day and her future life with your brother.

Congrats!! on gaining a new member to your family :-)

That's very pretty! I'm a fan of lavender.  I bet she'll love it, it's a very thoughtful gift and the tag is a great idea.

I'm wondering how I could possibly get you for a brother-in-law cause that tote is gorgeous and I want one too!!!  You did an great job on the tote and the bags in your gallery are also really nice.  If only I could sew with such professional looking results....... Smiley

Thanks everybody... thanks for the encouraging feedback!

Not only am I a guy who sews... I'm more into sewing than my wife (the model in the picture)... and I unintentionally started a 'sewing circle' of sorts in my office. I just started asking for advice and all of a sudden all these people came out of the 'crafting closet' and now we compare projects. It's weird... but so that I don't sound too girly, I also rock climb!

I had made purses for my wife's bridesmaids for our wedding too with similar labels. See here for example. In this post, there are the brown and lavender bags, but the ones I made for our wedding were BROWN and PINK. The ones in the example were a special order for people who loved the style and wanted to buy them! So now I'm in business!
