Vintage Visit with Santa: A Picture Pillow for Mom

My good friend, Pam, had a great idea for making a pillow using a photo from holidays past and when I came upon this photo of my mom visiting Santa way back when, I knew I had to copy her! 



I finally found a project worthy of using some of the vintage trims I'd collected but could never bring myself to use like this teeny, tiny gingham single-fold bias tape.



I'm pretty pleased with how the mitered corners turned out.  When I went to the button bin (that started with my great-great grandmother's buttons) to find a green or red button I came upon this vintage ceramic green and white checked button!  It was meant to be!

Just before I learned about this idea from Pam, I picked up this adorable, vintage double-fold bias tape at an antique mall.  I got so excited when I decided to make a cording out of it!

Lastly, I found a gingham print that's diagonal to back it with that's in a vintage-y colored green!



This gift will be wrapped up and labeled "For Grandma, Love Betty & Delia" who are our 2 pups whose Christmas collars will be covered in the same green gingham with a vintage, red rick rack detail.  SO CUTE!

It's almost the quintessential picture with Santa from the mid-late 1940s, isn't it?  What's extra great is that Santa has a pinky ring!  He's OG, this St. Nick.
