ok, i waited till the last second this year. today is father's day, and while my hubby is at work, i made him a present. i found a nice old frame to use, a couple pictures of our little princess, and took a couple CDs that i microwaved and put them all together.

isn't that neat?! it's kinda scary, though. i only microwaved one cd at a time, for about 5 or 10 seconds on high. everytime i'd start the microwave, i'd run around the corner and hide until it was done. i was scared that w/ my luck it might explode, lol. it does put off a crazy spark filled light show for the short time it's microwaving! Cheesy

Those microwaved cd's look really cool, but it's not a good idea to put anything metal in your microwave. You've re-discovered the photoelectric effect (shine photons on metal-> metal ejects electrons). Good way to destroy the microwave, short something out and start a fire. Remember to craft safely folks!

yeah, i knew what it was doing before i did it. that's part of the reason i ran so quickly to hide! i'm not too worried about ruining my microwave, though, as it's ancient, and we have another if need be. we've got two of almost everything when it comes to appliances, including an extra washer and dryer. that's what happens when two packrats marry!

CD'S ARE NOT MADE OF METAL....thare plastic,   casset tapes have more mettal in them!
ever crack one in half? its pure plastic,   its safe for the microwave...the only thing that makes it spark is the metalic coAting on the side thats burned.

thare made of clear plastic.  sratch the surface of one.....youll see

nobody ever said cds were made of metal. they do, however have a metallic coat, (which you even said yourself,) which would still constitute as putting metal in a microwave. i am pretty sure, though, that "thare" isn't a real word.

I'd like to point out that if English isn't Appleshannon's main language, it is an acceptable error. It's spelled a lot like it sounds, and English is an irritatingly complex language, especially when it's not a first language!

You get a crackle effect on your CD. There's a pretty long thread about this to in the Jewelry board.
